Darkpools, Metalcore from Italy

Darkpools are an italian metal band born in 2016 in Trieste in the north east of Italy
The band took its name directly from economy, the term darkpools identifies the huge unregular market where most of the irregular exchanges occur with no vigilance. In this darkpools finance rules global politic and economy following only the profit’s rule.
Andrea Dean (vocals), Davide Purinani (guitar) and Angelo Rusalem (guitar) are the founders of the band. They previously played together in another band and started Darkpools in order to create a more contemporary sounded project. From the very beginning Michael Bonanno (drums) and Giuliano Corbatto (bass) joined the band. After a few years Giuliano left the band for family needs and Davide Giorgi joined the band.
Darkpools’ main focus is to search for musical impact, with low register and emphatising riffs and tempo shiftings. In their upcoming album, thanks to Davide Giorgi’s backing vocals, the sound evolved leading to more melodical moments.
The main musical references of the Darkpools’ sound are: the late Carcass, Raised Fist and the ’90 hardcore for Andrea’s vocal style, ’90 thrash like Machine Head and the nu metal groove.
The band played mostly in the north east of Italy and a bunch of times in Croatia while recording their first studio demo. Registered in Trieste and produced and mixed by Lorenzo Gavinelli in the Zero Point Energy studio in New York. The demo was published in 2018.
With Davide Giorgi on bass and vocals the band started to write new songs and they recorded the upcoming album, released in autumn 2021 that will be mixed and produced again by Lorenzo Gavinelli in New York

Musicwebzine – Hi there, first of all, tell us something about the band
Darkpools –
The band was born in 2016 in Trieste Italy. Andrea Dean (vocals), Angelo Rusalem (guitar) and Davide Purinani (guitar) quitted the previous band where they played together and started the project. They soon found Michael Bonanno (drums) and Giuliano Corbatto (bass). We played a couple of gigs in Italy, Slovenja and Croatia and recorded our first demo in 2018. After that Giuliano left the band and Davide Giorgi became the bassist. Davide is also doing backing vocals. From the very beginning we decided to do original music, with no concern about genres or labels, but focusing only on what we like to play and what we think the public will enjoy at our shows. After the arriving of Davide Giorgi, we slightly changed our songwriting and started to switch more often from ritmic to melodic parts. The band took its name directly from economy, the term darkpools identifies the huge unregular market where most of the irregular exchanges occur with no vigilance. In this darkpools finance rules global politic and economy following only the profit’s rule.

Musicwebzine – Which is the main theme of your album ?
Darkpools –
The main concept of the album, is a critic and negative approach to the contemporary society. Money, financial power, corrupted politic rule the world. But there is still room for hope, if people open their eyes, change their lives we can change it and world’s future. But to achieve this we have to act as one.
There’s a lot of anger and frustration, but also hope

Musicwebzine – What about the cover and the title of your album ?
Darkpools –
All the graphics were made by Davide Giorgi and his wife Cristiana. They shoot photos, edited the graphics for the cds and made a wonderful work! The graphical concept of the cd recalls our first video “Gore”. the title sounded good and we all agreed that the song is very representative of our music and our album.

Musicwebzine – Which bands has influenced your sound ?
Darkpools –
We all love music, mostly but not only metal. We listen to a lot of different stuff and we always try to put something of everyone of us in every song. with that said, probably listening to us you can think about some ’90 thrash (machine head, sepultura, slayer), late carcass, hardcore bands mainly for the vocal parts (raised fist, snapcase)

Musicwebzine – Do you think you can still live only on music?
Darkpools –
It’s really hard especially if you don’t play some mainstream music. for a metal band you have to be very huge to live only on music.

Musicwebzine – That’s all!! greeted our readers with a message!
