MWZ – Hi there, first of all, tell us something about the band
In Sonder : We’re In Sonder from Chester, UK! We are a Cyber Metal band with heavy guitars and synths in our music. We previously formed a symphonic metal band called Curse of Dawn, but have since made a resurgence with our new identity and sound!
MWZ – What is the main theme of your single?
In Sonder : Quintessence is about feeding on the energy of others around you, like a social vampires of sorts, maintaining a social high with the fear of anxiety and depression looming overhead. The desperation of not slowing down is present in the fast pacing off the song!
MWZ – What about the cover?
In Sonder : We all agreed on the type of artwork we wanted for the single and we were inspired by cyberpunk-style artworks that we’d seen before. We wanted something that looked vaguely human, but dark and predatory (like a vampire) in a cityscape, to convey the song’s theme.
MWZ – Which bands have influenced your sound ?
In Sonder : We all have a vast array of influences! Some of us are inspired more by symphonic metal bands like Nightwish and Epica, some of us more progressive like Dream Theater and Devin Townsend. Of course, we all love pouring electronic sounds over the metal music we create!
MWZ – Which artist would like to have as a special guest on your next album ?
In Sonder : Some of us are part of other musical projects and bands and we have a good community of artists who we would love to have as special guests! It would be a dream of ours to have someone like Devin Townsend or Simone Simons (Epica) as guest vocals though!
