Monkey Intrusion, we prefer not to stick to one particular genre

Monkey Intrusion is an independent rock band based in Trieste, North East of Italy. Their music is a melting of genres influenced by the different backgrounds of band members.
The project started in the summer of 2013 from the ashes of a previous band formed by Marco Plesnicar (bass), Vincenzo Reina (guitars, voice) and Enrico Goti (voice, guitars). They started to develop their own music in a slow process due mainly to the changes at the drumkit until finally Marco Bertoli (drums) joined the group in 2021. His presence provided the stability and sound needed to take the next step…entering a recording studio. The Album was recorded in 2022 at Jork Studios (studiojork.com) Dekani, one of the most relevant in Slovenia. The result is a journey through the emotions, observations and sometimes fears of a dystopic society where the music shifts in genres to underscore what the lyrics portray. At present they have released 6 singles – The Brighter Side, Fire Dancer, Life, Police of the Soul, Hard Times and Bad Love – and their debut Album ‘Pussycats And Monkeymen’.

Musicwebzine – Hi guys , who are Monkey Intrusion ?
Monkey Intrusion – Hi and thank you so much for this interview. We are an independent Rock Band from Italy and we play since more than ten years together. We have Enrico Goti and myself Vincenzo Reina on voice and guitar, Marco Plesnicar on bass and Marco Bertoli on the drums. And we love what we do.

Musicwebzine – Tell us about your latest release !
Monkey Intrusion – We are so proud to have published our first full Album ‘Pussycats and Monkeymen’ that condense the best songs we composed in the last years. We recorded it at Jork Studios in Slovenia with two great engineers and producers Jadran Ogrin and Gabriel Ogrin who supported us massively in the genuine sound we were looking for and we worked with an amazing singer Sara Cova for the backing vocals.

Musicwebzine – What’s your favorite song and why ?
Monkey Intrusion – Uh difficult question! I think Bad Love because you can hear all the influences of the band, it has lots of atmosphere changes, powerful and dreamy at the same time and we think it has wonderful lyrics as well.

Musicwebzine – Which bands influenced your style ?
Monkey Intrusion – We have a very mixed background in the band. I would mention Genesis, Led Zeppelin, Guns and Roses, Soundgarden and Dream Theater.

Musicwebzine – How many stile we can listen in your music ?
Monkey Intrusion – Actually really many. Our music is a blend of Hard Rock, Prog, Grunge, Stoner and Punk. We prefer not to stick to one particular genre but to blend mix many of them just following creativity and trying to understand what serves the song at best.

Musicwebzine – What about the cover ?
Monkey Intrusion – We worked with an amazing Indonesian graphic designer Keluhart who managed to catch the spirit of the band. In our opinion she did a brilliant work.

Musicwebzine – How is the music scene in your country?
Monkey Intrusion – There are many great independent and some settled rock bands. The market is pretty much overloaded on the production side with trap and hip hop and the live scene has abundance of cover and tribute bands. Nevertheless there is still very good original music to listen to.
