Perceived, from melodic melodies to heavier breakdowns

Perceived is a three-piece rock band out of Dallas Texas. Formed in May of 2018, longtime friends of over 20 years, Chris Bell and Charlie McBride, decided to get together and work on some old songs as well as write new material with the help of their very good friend and bass player, Kevin Crawley. After a few rehearsals, it was very noticeable that things were just starting to click naturally between the three. After writing and working on material for over a year, Perceived played their first show in May of 2019 to a well-received crowd and has since performed with multiple local and national acts all around the DFW area. With so many different influences, their sound can’t really be described by one genre. Their dynamic compositions range from melodic melodies to heavier breakdowns. Having just released their debut EP on Friday October 30th, Perceived is definitely a band to keep an eye (or ear) out for.

Musicwebzine – Hi there, first of all, tell us something about the band
Chris –
Hello, we are Perceived, a three piece rock band out of Dallas, TX. I’m Chris, I play the drums and do lead vocals, Kevin plays bass and does back up vocals, and Charlie is the man behind the guitars. We’ve all been friends for a very long time and have played together before in other bands. We formed back in 2018 after about a 7 year hiatus of not jamming together. We all decided to get in a room and start playing around with some old and new ideas, and everything just started falling into place. We’ve been having fun ever since, and as long as that continues, we hope to keep doing this for a long time.

Musicwebzine – Which is the main theme of your album ?
Chris –
I guess if I had to say there was a theme, it would probably be death and despair. The lyrics definitely draw from a darker period in my life. Although these songs weren’t written with a theme in mind, that seems to be the common idea amongst the four tracks.

Musicwebzine – What about the cover and the title of your album ?
Chris –
The cover represents an older man that’s lived a life and is learning to perceive his existence differently. We named the EP Perceived because it’s our first album and we didn’t want to get to deep into an idea just for an EP.

Musicwebzine – Which bands have influenced your sound ?
Chris –
Collectively as a band I would say Nirvana, Metallica, Tool, Mudvayne, and Pantera just to name a few. There’s honestly just too many to list them all.

Musicwebzine – Do you think that we can still live only on music?
Chris –
Honestly, in today’s market, I don’t think so. You either have to be in multiple bands or a cover/tribute band, or have a regular job and do music on the side. The days of “making it” are dead and gone, especially in the rock world. Maybe one day things will change, but it’s not looking good in my opinion.

Musicwebzine – That’s all!! greeted our readers with a message!
