Rossometile – “Gehenna” [Self Released]
Yet another excellent album for Rossometile, authoritative standard-bearers of Italian gothic metal and a band that is heading towards its third decade of honored career. As had already happened in the past, the lyrics are in Italian, sung by the beautiful voice of Ilaria Bernardini, while as far as the music is concerned we are faced with at least a partial evolution of the sound of this band.
Among moments that recall classic gothic metal, we can also glimpse glimpses of more modern things attributable to a more wide-ranging concept of rock and metal and which in some ways comes close to what has been done in recent times by bands like Wihin Tempation, Anette Olzon, Amaranthe and Lacuna Coil.
The mix between gothic and modern metal is particularly successful, thanks also to a highly professional production that highlights a guitar work that is both classy and powerful when needed. The singer’s voice therefore rests on a very imaginative and powerful sound base. But some pieces such as “Voices from the desert”, “Pasionaria (Frida)”, “Blood and seduction”, “The winter rose” and “Duet with Satan” will satisfy the most demanding and refined palates, thanks to stylistic solutions that are always original, poignant passages and always fresh ideas.
In short, “Gehenna” turns out to be an almost unmissable album for lovers of female gothic metal, the pieces are truly all worthy and some are of an exceptional level, so all you have to do is mark this title down and put it on your list of musical purchases imminent.
