South African Alt Rockers The Color Blew release lyric video for 10-4-46
In celebration of their phenomenal sophomore album LIGHT SWITCH turning 1, as well as being nominated for BEST LIVE ACT and BEST ALTERNATIVE BAND at the South African Metal Music Awards, Alt Rockers THE COLOR BLEW is ending 2020 with a bang with the release of their LYRIC VIDEO for 10-4-46 (featuring footage from their blistering live set at Rockdown Festival 2020)
Marius Cronje (Bass) states that “Punk music has always been close to my heart and a major influence when it gets to the composition of the music. 10-4-46 is about the frenetic, fast-paced rough edges which surrounds the idyllic perception of what it is like to be in a touring band. All the faces. All the love. All the blood and sweat leaked onto stages and to fans. The ultimate middle finger to conformity!”
Liaan Horton (Vocals & Rhythm Guitar) adds that “When out of control, you crave no control, but sink into the embrace of chaos … that was the thinking behind impulsive lyrics when the moment created 10-4-46. I remember the beat being the foundation that led us to create this moment of chaos … the song was written in 20 minutes as a band. It’s pure and intense no preconceived notions no plan just chaos! 10-4-46 is fast, hard, dirty and out of control chaos … just like a Friday night on the road in some small town, can you feel … are you alive?”
The Color Blew represents depth and insight in a sea of over-produced, shallow, commercial music. We provide the “alternative” where talent and passion merge with meaning and sound – a place free from preconceived notions of how music should sound. We often find discerning audience members getting lost in moments of deep listening, mesmerised by the artful sound and impassioned performance, unaware of what is happening around them. We work hard in the studio, play hard on stage, and strive for consummate professionalism, no matter the occasion.
While The Color Blew has only been together since 2014, our combined years of band experience total over 65 years. We are a four piece outfit consisting of Liaan Horton (Vocals & Rhythm Guitar) Marius Cronje (Bass Guitar) Timothy James (Lead Guitar) Armando Santos (Drums). We are based in the East Rand of Gauteng, where we rehearse, create, record and produce our music in our own studio located in Springs.
Asking us to categorise our sound into one sub-genre of rock music would be like asking a painter to use only one colour paint. Our music could be broadly considered “Alternative Rock”, but there are many more nuances.
Our core material is heavily coloured by grunge and punk, and can be found on our debut album: THE CANVAS (2018). All in all, we strive to create an evolving, distinctive sound on the vast canvas of South African music!
