The Hiddn – “Whatevrman” [Self Released]
The Hiddn is a post-grunge, punk, alternative rock Brighton based trio formed by Stevoo (Lead Singer/Guitarist), Matt (Bass/Backing Vocals) and Luca (Drums/Backing Vocals).
Originally from a claustrophobic, closed minded small town in Italy they have moved to England in 2015 chasing whatever they couldn’t find in that environment after years of playing gigs, festivals and after recording three (four tracks) eps in a local studio.
Brighton’s diversity felt like a big breath of fresh air since the very beginning welcoming their blurred genre sound, helping them grow a fanbase which has spread to other cities after perfoming in venues such: The Hope and Ruin, The Prince Albert, The Green Door Store, The Pipeline in Brighton, The Black Heart, The Underbelly, The Roadtrip in London and festivals like New Rock City, The Punk’n’Roll Rendez-Vous (London) and Tramlines in Sheffield.
“Whatevrman” is the first new single extracted from the band’s upcoming 13-track album due to come out in September 2024. The reason why it was chosen to be the very first of the lot to be released, lies within its meaning.
The acoustic track is a message and critique to everyone who makes art, invests in it, promotes it, releases it, consumes it but also to whom, on the other hand, might be consumed by it, so what does that all mean and who is Whatevrman?
It could be yourself, or the friend who wasn’t patient when you were depressed, someone who litter because everyone does it, the kid who bully others because wasn’t loved or taught any better, the artist who decides to attend a talent show because they gave up on their integrity after their day dream was broken by the ways of the system, the list goes on.
It is a song against the “it is what it is” mentality which represses and brings unconsciously down the positive good will that everyone naturally has and with which, in all manner of ways, we could achieve collective wellbeing.
“Whatevrman”, offers an intense and engaging song, well enhanced by more marked grafts that give dynamics to the whole journey. The general sound is fluid, dinamic, with a redundant amalgam of sounds that amplify and enhance the atmosphere. A job well done to leave a good mark with the intent, in our opinion, successful to make the piece dynamic and ringing as a whole.
The Hiddn, proved to be prepared to create dynamic structures, without renouncing more atmospheric riffs, which undoubtedly leave an excellent mark. The voice gives further volume and depth to listening, in fact generating a good fluidity that is so engaging and not at all tiring. A song that drags the listener into a dimension with a remarkable sound impact and which releases excellent vibrations.
