Chrome Sky, an aseptic and ruthless gaze at the contemporary man

Chrome Sky is the result of a decade-long collaboration between the multifaceted vocalist and songwriter Paolo Miano and the creative composer/programmer Mario Ferrarese, with the aim of creating a new genre blending metal, industrial, trance, prog, goth and many other influences into a unique and unexplored scenario, with the voice as the sole human element against an entirely programmed instrumental background (guitars included).
Chrome Sky’s music depicts with an aseptic and ruthless gaze the alienated existential condition of the contemporary man, forcing the listener to face the magma of drives seething in the depths of the human soul where rationality is overrun, the good and the evil annihilate, the sacred and madness coexist and the doom of man is created, and thus perceive the painful effort of existence.
In the summer of 2016 Chrome Sky recorded and mixed seven tracks at The Cave Studio in Catania with renowned producer Daniele Grasso (Afterhours, Greg Dulli) as the sound engineering. The seven songs constitute their debut album Artificial, released by DCave Records in May 2017 and anticipated by the single Artificial Man, whose video-clip produced by Apulian filmmaker alecs (Alessandro Urso) was released at the beginning of October of the same year.rr
Due to personal vicissitudes, however, they are unfortunately forced to interrupt their activity in January 2018 just at the time of the promotional launch in Europe.
In 2021, Chrome Sky are back in business with two singles: Kleenex in February, and Desert Sun in June, which mark a slight turn towards harder metal and industrial sounds, and which anticipate a new album, Binary, out on October 15th.

Musicwebzine – Hi there, first of all, tell us something about the band
Chrome Sky –
We (Mario and Paolo) had played together in Catania, Italy, in a band called Brainwork in the late nineties but then Mario moved to Amsterdam and so we lost each other. We virtually met again in 2009 thanks to MySpace and we started Chrome Sky as a remote project in which Mario produces completely programmed instrumental tracks and Paolo adds the vocal lines and the lyrics. But it wasn’t until 2016 that we decided to take it seriously and record our first album, Artificial, that was released in 2017. Some other vicissitudes led us apart again but last year we decided to come back into the scenes by releasing a second album, Binary.

Musicwebzine – Which is the main theme of your album ?
Chrome Sky –
Actually there’s not a real main theme in this album but we are very much interested to existential themes, in particular how human self perception is changing because of their interaction with the new technologies.

Musicwebzine – What about the cover and the title of your album ?
Chrome Sky –
The album cover is a picture of a rotting leave by Sicilian artist Davide Gianmaria Aricò who is also a great friend of ours. Other than being a beautiful piece of art, it’s very meaningful to us since reminding about impermanence, which we have the illusion we can overcome by means of technology. The album title, Binary, refers to number two and was chosen not only because it’s our second album but mostly to highlight the dual nature of our project (Mario and Paolo, the human element vs. the machines, etc.)

Musicwebzine – Which bands have influenced your sound ?
Chrome Sky –
Literally, there is no band or musical genre which can’t potentially be used by us as an ingredient of our mixture. Industrial and death metal are simply the core of our project. We also have slightly different approaches as to musical tastes. Mario is more metal oriented, Paolo is more on the alternative side. But we both share a great appreciation for Cynic’s metaphysical approach on metal music.

Musicwebzine – Do you think you can still live only on music?
Chrome Sky –
It’s getting harder and harder but even so, actually this is not the reason why we make our music, we would have relied on pop music if it had been for that. Of course, on the other hand, any kind of success would be welcome.

Musicwebzine – That’s all!! Greet our readers with a message!
Chrome Sky –
Hello everybody! We hope you give us a chance and give a listen to this strange stuff we produce. Also, don’t forget to follow us in the socials if you want to keep yourself posted about our activities. Thanks a lot!
